Special
Events There are many rewards for a well planned and executed special event. Increased ad sales, sponsor fees, favorable publicity, opportunities to interact with advertisers and readers, and solidifying the publication’s leadership position. Some special event opportunities are within the publication. For example, an important anniversary, such as 10 years or 25 years of publishing. Anniversaries provide opportunity for a look back at major events spanning the years. Or they call for a special section within one issue. Or a meal with celebrity speaker for readers and/or advertisers. Common special events include awards for outstanding achievements, for example, person of the year, or for people who are generous in contributing time and/or money in community service. But collaboration is the operative word today. Collaboration between publications, advertisers, and community organizations often bring big rewards to all participants. The publication and the partners each lend added value and result in a win-win situation. After hours gatherings and special educational offerings are collaborative events hosted by many publications and advertisers. The
