About Bryan Powell Bryan Powell has a proven track record of increasing publishing profit margins by optimizing revenue, cost control, and the effective management of acquisitions and divestitures. He is known as a strong leader with excellent business instincts who builds effective teams to achieve bottom line results. He most recently was division vice president with responsibility for a $30 million publishing and conference group of an international publishing company. When he first joined this company as vice president of operations he brought financial discipline to the company. In addition to financial management, his duties also included oversight of human resources, information technology and production. In an earlier publishing experience, he served as controller of a start-up publishing company including budgets, financial reporting, bank financing, audits, insurance, taxes and payroll. He also developed and implemented human resources policies and practices. He eventually worked on negotiations and the transition plan related to the sale of this company. He also has experience as controller or vice president of finance and administration in three non-publishing companies. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota and successfully completed the American Business Media Management Institute at Northwestern University. Bryan Powell says: “My experience includes
involvement in both entrepreneurial start-ups and more established large
corporate publishing companies. I work effectively in either environment.
I have at one time or another been deeply involved in every department
within publishing and have learned the importance of bringing to those who
lead each function an intense focus on financial discipline. That means
watching every expenditure with a hawk-like eye to hold down costs. But
it also means being ever alert to opportunities to bring in more revenue,
to improve the top line. It is there that I step out of my controller role
and encourage and participate in development of products and spin-offs
that will bring new sales to the company.” |
