The metro/regional publishing focus

The Publishing Advisers consulting practice focuses on – but is not limited to – metropolitan and regional publications. Markets served by these publications are either a metropolitan area or a region, such as a state, part of a state, or several states. Some publications we serve are in the magazine format; others are newspapers. Frequency varies from several times a week to once a year.

Publication types include: Lifestyle, business-to-business, technology, alternative newspapers, parenting, home decorating, gardening, women’s interests and issues, gourmet cooking, food and wine appreciation, dining out, weddings, real estate, sightseeing, vacations, senior citizens, and other special interest subjects.

Why this focus? After all, publishing is publishing is publishing. To an extent that is true. But metro/regional publications have opportunities and challenges not experienced by the nationals. Readers and advertisers are in close proximity. While publishers, editors, advertising and circulation personnel serve clients as advertisers and/or readers, they also associate with them in non-business settings. Staff and clients work on projects together at church, school, youth sports and civic organizations. They are friends and neighbors.

This close proximity makes it possible to have frequent in-person contacts, to do joint promotions, to conduct research, to attend (and sponsor) special events. These advertisers and readers become more than a voice on the telephone. Their proximity often spells increased bottom lines.

We offer publishers the opportunity to cost-effectively and temporarily add the needed breadth and depth to the resources available within the company.
