Vox Populi provides cost-effective research Vox Populi is Latin for “voice of the people.” That is the name of Publishing Advisers’ publication research service. Vox Populi Research is headed by PAI partner Tom Dupont, a veteran of publication research and also an expert in product positioning, branding and marketing. “We offer any type of research that a publisher needs, such as demographic, buying intentions, opinion, industry trends, and readership,” Dupont states. Vox Populi is equipped to do studies by US mail, e-mail, telephone, intercept, or focus group. “We provide fast, accurate and authoritative research.” Dupont worked as a research executive at The Miller Publishing Company of Minneapolis. As an advertising agency executive, he supervised the work of numerous research companies on behalf of agency clients. As a good marketer, Dupont is making an introductory offer. The first three companies who reserve Vox Populi Research services will be charged at half the rate of PAI’s very client-friendly prices. Use “Contact Us” on this site or send an e-mail to: vp@publishingadvisers.com. You will receive a prompt response. What’s your publication (or company) worth? Publishing Advisers appraises individual publications or publishing companies. We do so by working closely with owners and their financial staff and advisors to arrive at a present day market value. Why have an appraisal? A common reason is to prepare for a sale. Just as important, however, is to establish value for financing purposes with a bank or private lenders. Also, an appraisal is an essential tool in estate planning for privately held companies, particularly family-owned businesses. And it is an essential input to a personal financial statement for owners and shareholders. “Smart operators get an appraisal done on a regular basis, every other year being common,” according to Bill Dorn, PAI managing partner. “It is not wise to procrastinate until an occasion arises where you need an appraisal on a tight timetable,” Dorn says. PAI sells two magazines; to offer publications group Publishing Advisers has successfully concluded the sale of two publications in recent months and is preparing an offering memorandum for the sale of a group of metropolitan/regional publications. PAI closed a transaction in 2004 involving sale of Foyer Magazine, a twice-a-year upscale design magazine for the Naples and southwestern Florida market. PAI represented Nancy Gordon, owner of Foyer, in the sale to N Media Group of Naples, owned by Tom Brown. N Media Group publishes n, The Magazine of Naples, and other metro Naples titles. Bill Dorn and Bryan Powell managed this transaction. In early 2005 PAI represented the national quarterly magazine, Business Ethics, in its sale to New Mountain Media of New York City. Business Ethics, 18 years old, was founded and led by Marjorie Kelly, who stays with the publication as editor. The magazine’s headquarters has moved to New York. New Mountain founder and owner Michael Connor is publisher and editor in chief. Bill Dorn of PAI and Bill Hammond of Publishing Strategy International, a partner with PAI on projects, co-managed this transaction. PAI is about to bring to market a five-year-old group of several metro/regional annual publications operating in numerous U.S. cities and headquartered in the Midwest. A descriptive memorandum is being prepared and will be available soon. It can be requested through “Contact Us” on this site. This transaction is being managed by PAI partners Bill Dorn and Bryan Powell. We have capacity to manage more transactions during 2005 and invite inquiries. If you’re considering a sale soon or even in the future, please contact us and we can assist you with the planning that will assure a successful transaction. Also, we are able to help find financing for solid purchases or start-ups. We recently arranged bridge financing through private sources that was instrumental in bringing a developing company to profitability.
